First Self Portraits: Through the Ages

It was during my hotel apprenticeship in Heidelberg that I started visual storytelling through personal transformation. It happened rather spontaneously and was a very good way to balance out the long and hard-working days at the hotel. On a day off, I decided to take portraits of myself. My concept was to show myself across different life stages, from childhood to old age, using changes in costume and facial expression. The young girl grows into a mature woman, but then hard times come and she turns to the bottle and becomes unhappy. As an old woman, she is bitter and longs for her young years. Fortunately, my own life has not unfolded that way.
